Season 3 of Big Brother Canada is premiering tonight at 8PM EST. The show has been aired on Slice for the first two seasons but because of its ever-growing fandom, GlobalTV decided to pick up the show, which means a wider reach across Canada. This also means the stakes are even higher, not to mention $100,000 on the line. Here’s everything you need to know about Big Brother Canada before you tune in tonight.
The House
This year’s house has been completely redone with an industrial steampunk theme and it’s about to make the U.S. and U.K. versions of the show look pretty budget by comparison. One thing in the Big Brother house that always stays constant is that there is literally nowhere to hide. There’s 85 cameras, 60 microphones and 190 pieces of mirror. All of which are two-way mirrors where cameras are watching from the other side. The Head of Household room and all the bathrooms are no exceptions. So the big question is, who will get caught slippin’?
The Hostess With The Mostess
You may already know Arisa Cox as the witty host of Big Brother Canada, but did you know that she herself was once part of the reality show The Lofters? Arisa was on the first season of the Real World style reality series back in 2001, which followed eight Canadians living together in a Toronto loft for a whole year. This means Arisa knows exactly what it’s like to have cameras following her 24/7. No wonder she’s such an empathetic host. Check her out in the show’s hilarious opening below.
Marsha The Moose, Unofficial Houseguest
There may be 16 houseguests moving in and out of the Big Brother house each season, but there is one unofficial resident who is always bound to stir up some trouble, and she just so happens to be a Moose. You never know when Marsha will pop up, but she always steals the show. Voiced by the show’s challenge producer Trevor Boris, Marsha typically appears to mess with the contestants or give them a secret mission that will no doubt cause them embarrassment. There is no official confirmation of whether or not Marsha will be back for season 3, but it just wouldn’t be Big Brother Canada without her.
Showmances
When locked up in a house for three months with no contact to the outside world and a dwindling number of roomates to spend your time with, Showmances are a given in Big Brother. It’s a special kind of television romance that occurs between houseguests that could either make or break a person’s game. In the past we’ve seen Jemmett (Jillian MacLaughlin and Emmett Blois) use their relationship to bulldoze through the competition and lead Jillian to a win, and last year we watched Jon Pardy and Neda Kalantar flirt all season long until Jon was the last contestant standing, although Jon and Neda didn’t officially start dating until after the season was over. This year’s crop of houseguests is bound to be no different with tons of young energy and raging hormones making their way into the house, not to mention one gorgeous 41 year old self proclaimed cougar named Risha who is single and ready to mingle.
The Big Brother Sideshow
The Big Brother Sideshow airs weekly after each live eviction episode, except this season it’s bigger than ever, extending from 30 minutes to a full hour. This means more time with Big Brother alum hosts Peter Brown and Gary Levy and more opportunities for Big Brother favourites to come back for special appearances. Last season had visits from Emmett and Jillian and the infamous Rachel Reilly from Big Brother U.S. who is apparently a BB Canada superfan. Each week you can find out exactly what went wrong with each evicted houseguest’s strategy as they take the walk of shame from the Big Brother house and back into the real world.
