The man charged for murdering his wealthy father at the elder man's Manhattan apartment last month has pleaded not guilty, authorities say.

According to the Associated Press, Thomas Gilbert, Jr., 30, entered the plea during an appearance in Manhattan State Supreme Court yesterday. Gilbert, Jr. stands accused of murdering his father, 70-year-od Thomas Gilbert, Sr., following a dispute about money.

The elder Gilbert had reportedly informed his son that he was no longer going to pay his rent, and also planned to reduce his allowance. Gilbert, Jr. surrendered to police later that day, and was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

The Associated Press adds that Gilbert, Jr.'s attorney, Alex Shapiro, noted that there was no witness to the murder, and called the case "circumstantial." Regardless, her client is being held without bail.
