Authorities have finally revealed a Queens man's motive for stabbing his wife and two young daughters: He wanted to run away with the children, but didn't have a way to escape with them.
On Jan. 19, 28-year-old Miguel Mejia-Ramos stabbed 21-year-old Deisy Garcia before turning the knife on daughters Yoselin and Daniela, ages one and two. DNAinfo reports that the Jamaica native told authorities that he murdered his daughters because he "didn't have car seats" for them. Authorities also suspect that Ramos murdered his wife out of jealousy.
Their bodies were discovered less than a day after the murders, and Ramos was arrested while driving through Texas on Monday. After initially telling detectives that he killed his wife because she had killed their children, he changed his story.
Ramos has been charged with first-degree murder and faces life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted.
