Kentucky's ban on same-sex was abolished by a federal judge today, officials say.

The Associated Press reports that U.S. District Judge John G. Heyburn ruled that the ban was a violation of the Constitution's Equal Protection Clause.

Heyburn had previously done away with the ban that recognized gay marriage in the state, but had not addressed the issue of whether or not marriage licenses would be issued to same-sex couples in. That was the focus of today's ruling:

According to the Associated Press, Gov. Steve Beshear said the state will appeal Heybrn's ruling.
