Fordham University ruined winter break for 2,500 students that it "accidentally" accepted.
According to Gothamist, the students were sent an email from a third party that handles all of the school's financial aid congratulating them on their acceptance to Fordham University. In actuality, this critical, life-altering news was supposed to be released a few days later.
The New York Times adds that a follow-up email was issued in the subsequent days, explaining that, well, a serious mistake had been made: "On Thursday, students logged in again to learn whether or not they had been admitted. The university apologized in a statement on Thursday and said it was working with the contractor, Student Aid Services, to determine what went wrong."
Of the falsely-accepted students, 2,000 were deferred, while the other 500 were flat-out rejected. The university issued an apology that won't soothe the pain of this fuck up by a long shot:
None
Mary Fallon, spokesperson for Student Aid Services, said the error happened when "data was transferred from a staging environment to our development environment." She added it was the "first of its kind" for S.A.S. That's not what those 2,500 kids want to hear.
