You know the social network malaise has set in when children are asking their parents to help them quit Facebook.
Rachel Baier, 14, drafted a contract in which she commits to ditch the network for five whole months. If the plan is successful, she'll earn a cool $50 on April and $150 in June she can use to buy "stuff." Her father, Paul, supports the plan "fully" and posted a snapshot of the signed document on his blog.
"She wants to earn money and also finds Facebook a distraction and a waste of time sometimes," he told the Daily Dot. "She plans to go back on after the six months is over."
Baier isn't the first user to take a Facebook hiatus: A new survey by the Pew Research Center's Internet and American Life project, reported by the New York Timesand conducted in December, found 61% of current Facebook users had gone on some sabbatical from the site, often for weeks at a time.
