While most people can’t wait to see the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel duke it out in the yet-untitled Batman/Superman movie, there are still plenty of comic book fans who are fuming over the casting of Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, and Jesse Eisenberg. This type of nerd rage happens during the production of every comic book movie, but it’s rare that a director actually steps in and talks about these haters.

In a recent interview with Hero Complex, director Zack Snyder did exactly that and brought some solid logic to the debate as well. Here is what he had to say when asked about the recent Internet outrage:

None

Snyder is used to the hate. Fans hated his Watchmen because it deviated too much from the comics. Others hated it because it didn’t deviate enough. Fans hated his Man of Steel because there was too much action and destruction; meanwhile, those same fans hated Superman Returns because there wasn’t enough action and destruction.

He’s a man in a constant lose-lose with fans, but in reality all of his comic book movies make serious bank at the box office. Odds are Batman/Superman will surpass them all, haters or not. You can read the rest of the interview here.

Batman/Superman will hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
