Kim Kardashian never needs a reason to flood your timelines with racy photos, like she did today. The mom of three treated her fans to a series of provocative photos via Twitter.
However, Kim's voluptuous frame failed to distract anyone from her striking new hairstyle, which she dubbed the "Bo Derek Braids."
Over the weekend, the reality star posted a video on Snapchat wearing beaded cornrows. Instead of acknowledging the obvious cultural roots of her new style, Kim said she was inspired by the eighties supermodel, Bo Derek, who sported similar braids in her 1979 film 10. Kardashian's blatant cultural appropriation didn't sit well with Black twitter. Numerous people on social media pointed out that Bo Derek didn't invent the style and suggested that Kim should have done her research.
Derek herself once spoke out in defense Kylie Jenner when she was accused of cultural approrpriation by Hunger Games actress Amandla Stenberg, after Jenner showed off her cornrows. “It’s a hairdo! That’s all it is,” Derek said, according to The Cut. “No, seriously, of all the important racial and cultural issues we have right now, people are going to focus on a hairstyle? No, no. I’ll save my efforts toward important racial and cultural issues.”
Despite Derek's pleas, Kim should be savvy enough to give credit where credit is due. Otherwise she'll keep breaking the internet for all the wrong reasons.
