HBO Max has ordered three new series from J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions, Deadline reports.

Perhaps the most intriguing is Overlook, an anthology series inspired by Stephen King's The Shining that will center around "the untold, terrifying stories of the most famous haunted hotel in American fiction." It's the latest offshoot from King's beloved novel-turned-movie, the most recent being last year's sequel Doctor Sleep, which wasn't that well-received by critics or audiences alike. We'll see if Abrams has better luck with Overlook.

Abrams will also produce a series based on DCs Justice League Dark, a brand that typically explores more occult characters like John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Shade, the Changing Man, and Zatanna. Fans hoping to see Batman or Superman show up might want to look elsewhere.

Finally, Abrams and LaToya Morgan co-wrote a show called Duster, which is set in the 1970s Southwest, and will follow "the life of a gutsy getaway driver for a growing crime syndicate goes from awful to wildly, stupidly, dangerously awful."

As HBO Max prepares to launch this May, it's partnership with Abrams is the latest sign that it's ready to dive into the streaming wars full steam ahead. While Abrams is most notable for his work in films, the Rise of Skywalker director has had some established success in television as well. Some notable Bad Robot series already produced through Warner Bros. Television include HBO's Westworld, and Hulu's Castle Rock among others.
