Sliding Into DMs Just Became Even Less Regulated

Say goodbye to the character limit.

Twitter already unleashed the DM floodgates in April by allowing users to receive direct messages from people they don't follow. The wild west of solicitation is about to become even more untethered, as Twitter announced today it'll get rid of the 140-character limit for DMs.

The change won't take effect until July, allowing us time to prepare for users professing their thirst in essay form. But it makes a lot of sense, really, when brevity isn't really the point of direct messages. You're more likely to say what you want there, even if you have to split it into a few messages.

In related news, Twitter also announced today CEO Dick Costolo will step down from his post July 1. Stock in the social network has already risen 8 percent since the announcement.
