Newly released video obtained by KFOX14 shows the final moments in the life of Sgt. James Brown, an African-American active soldier who died after turning himself in three years ago to El Paso police for a two-day jail sentence. The video shows something happening in his cell to cause him to bleed. When Brown refuses to speak with the guards a riot team swarms on top of him, and he says he can't breathe. Afterward he's carried to an infirmary and has a mask placed over his face by guards. Again Brown says he can't breathe, but he's left lying in his cell with his breathing visibly shallowed.

An autopsy cited sickle cell crisis as the cause of death, but his family is suing the El Paso police while claiming the department's treatment of Brown directly led to his death.

Watch the video (which may be disturbing) above.
