Iranian. Vampire. Western. Those are three words we never thought we'd see in a sentence, yet here we are watching the trailer for a movie with that description.
A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, the first feature film from Ana Lily Amirpour, is shedding the teenage angst associated with the genre in recent years and taking vampires in a new direction. The movie from Vice Films counts spaghetti westerns, graphic novels, horror films, and the Iranian New Wave as influences.
In the trailer above we're introduced to Bad City, an Iranian ghost town stalked by a single vampire known only as "The Girl." In a dark, empty street she looks like the victim, but it's her would-be assailant—and anyone, really—who should be afraid.
Look out for A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night in theatres Nov. 21 in New York and Los Angeles.
