Are you all kinds of fired up for Stephen Colbert to take of The Late Show? Can you hardly wait to see what he’s like out of character, and with his own 60 minute show instead of the usual half hour?

Well, you’re going to be waiting for a while.

CBS has announced that Colbert’s first episode of The Late Show will air on Tuesday, September 8, meaning it will have been over nine months since we last saw Colbert on TV. Womp womp.

David Letterman will be retiring on May 20, which means that there’s a whole three-and-a-half month window of pure late night nothingness. Come on, Stephen; what could you possibly be doing during the summer that’s so important? Spending time with your family? Boo hoo. Your kids can wait. America needs you.
