Nicolas Winding Refn made a name for himself in Hollywood with the Ryan Gosling-led Drive, so it kind of makes sense his next move would be to make another film about cars. Only this time he went for the much shorter form version.
Refn and Lincoln have teamed up to produce a series of commercials with possibly the most ideal candidate for ads that require a calm, yet charismatic presence behind the wheel: Matthew McConaughey. While the best of the bunch involves a staredown with a bull, each of the three ads released so far has its own merits.
“McConaughey playing McConaughey” might be one of the best things in Hollywood right now, and these commercials are really the best example of this remarkable, one-of-a-kind acting style. Keep doing you, Matthew.
