Next month, RM Sothebys is hosting a Monterey auction that will be headlined by the 1965 James Bond Aston Martin DB5, also known as "the most famous car in the world." The vehicle is said to be one of three surviving models commissioned by Eon Productions for the 1964 film Goldfinger, starring Sean Connery. The auction house states that the restored car will feature 13 fully-functioning modifications depicted in the movie, including a Browning .30 caliber machine gun in each fender, wheel-hub mounted tire-slashers, smoke screen dispensers, and revolving license plates.
“No other car in history has played a more important leading role on film and in pop culture than the Aston Martin DB5," Barney Ruprecht, car specialist for RM Sotheby said in a press release. "The DB5 is the iconic cornerstone of a marketing relationship that still exists to this day—with the model’s collectible status rooted largely in its 007 fame—and we look forward to exciting car and film enthusiasts alike in the lead up to the auction. This is an unbelievably rare chance to play secret agent in a car that offers incredible performance and style in its own right and we’re honoured to offer the Bond DB5 alongside our partners at Aston Martin."
The auction, dubbed "An Evening with Aston Martin," will take place Aug. 15 in Monterey, California, where more than 30 of the most coveted Aston Martins will be on display.
