Gabrielle Union Says She Was Thrown 'Under the Bus' After Terry Crews Praises Diversity at 'AGT'

Union's tweets come just a day after Crews defended the show's diversity.

Terry Crews insists he neither experienced nor witnessed any racism or discrimination on the set of America's Got Talent—contrary to what Gabrielle Union alleged after her controversial ousting from AGT. The 51-year-old actor addressed the controversy during a recent appearance on the TODAY show, months after Union was ousted from the show..

Insiders said that prior to Union's firing, she had expressed frustration over the show's "toxic culture" and producers' apparent toleration of racist jokes and sexist comments. Crews, who hosts AGT, told TODAY he couldn't speak to the alleged sexism, but made it clear he never saw any racist behavior behind the scenes.

"That was never my experience. In fact, it was the most diverse place I have ever been in my 20 years of entertainment," he told the hosts. "When you look at what the allegations were about, it was given by an unnamed source. It's funny because I believe you should listen to women, you should always believe women, so I asked my wife what I should do. She was like, 'first of all, if it's coming from an unnamed source — because Gabrielle Union has not made any statement to this day about any of these allegations publicly … if she hasn't made a statement, why would you?'"

Union shared a series of tweets that seemingly addressed Crews' comments. The first post was in response to a fan who expressed support for Union and encouraged her to stand by her truth. After thanking the fan, Union pointed to the "multiple witnesses who bravely came forward to let everyone know" she was not exaggerating or lying. She then spoke about unnamed people who "will throw you under the bus."

Thank u! Cuz girlllllll 😐 Truth telling, wanting change & having MULTIPLE witnesses who bravely came forward to let EVERYONE know I didn't lie or exaggerate, really exposes those who enthusiastically will throw you under the bus, forgetting quickly who stepped up 4 THEIR truth. https://t.co/X1uooWTpmK

Union went on to say that there was a clear lack of diversity among production as well as the hair and makeup department. She also claimed that the involved parties had agreed not to speak about the situation until the investigation had been completed: "But if we doing this... ohhhhh baby let's gooooooooooo!" she tweeted.

Why anyone would gleefully get up on TV and tell lies that NO ONE disputed... But we already know. https://t.co/8MAfmzSgmI

Can someone please ask abt what happens to all that diversity folks are talking about BEHIND THE SCENES. Like, legit... where the hell is all that diversity in the production though homie? In the decision making ranks who control the fate of the diversity in front of the camera?

— Gabrielle Union (@itsgabrielleu) January 24, 2020

Maaaaaan... We all agreed to let the investigation be completed before speaking but if we doing this... ohhhhh baby let's gooooooooooo!

Let's also talk about where the diversity is in the hair & makeup dept for contestants that DOES NOT reflect all that diversity that hits the stage. Let's Google the exec's that run the show & ask follow up ?? about THAT egregious lack of diversity. Let's discuss the facts https://t.co/w40qrBDac1

Though Union never mentioned anyone by name, Twitter users were convinced she was responding to Crews. Many also criticized the AGT host for seemingly dismissing the allegations of racism and sexism on the set of AGT—especially since he knows first-hand how difficult it can be to come forward with these types of allegations. Crews had previously sued former WME agent Adam Venit for allegedly groping him at a 2017 party. Crews' case was ultimately thrown out.

Beyond disappointing. Terry Crews could have spoken to his experience without going overboard to discredit @itsgabrielleu. BTW, I didn’t have to know Terry Crews or see what happened to him to support him. Sadly, black women are used to this. https://t.co/2uuQ4Yr6oG

Lol. Terry Crews still deserved to be heard and supported after coming forward with his sexual assault experience BUT I’M TELLING YOU... this is the kinda shit that makes me never want to defend men vocally. Terry, Kanye, Cam Newton, etc. I’m over it. https://t.co/XMqNnSdquJ

If Terry Crews wanted to protect his own interests by remaining silent and not supporting Gabrielle Union, it would have merely been unprincipled. But the fact that he actively contradicts her claims —when he could have just said nothing— is deplorable.

Terry Crews received so much love and support from Black women. It's bullshit the way he is tap dancing and throwing Gabrielle Union under the bus.

Terry Crews should’ve just sat there and ate his food. pic.twitter.com/y1EuO1y3BH

Terry Crews selling out Gabrielle Union after she supported him through his #MeToo experience is supremely messed up. https://t.co/QzQqG3UxK0

Did Terry Crews let Gabrielle Union keep the knife he drove into her back? https://t.co/AyCRTmbBAm

Terry Crews was on here doing the woke Olympics and calling black women his only ally, but when it was his chance to support one he ain’t see nothing or hear nothing 😂😂😂
