Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige revealed that Eternals would feature the movie universe's first openly gay character.

In an interview with Good Morning America, Feige seemed to imply that the unnamed character's sexual orientation would not be a focus of his story, but would act as a piece of a larger story. Without giving away which character is gay in the upcoming film, Feige revealed that it would be one of the men.

"He's married, he's got a family, and that is just part of who he is," Feige said.

The movie was already highly anticipated, even by Marvel standards. This can be attributed to the all-star cast. Eternals will include performances from Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, and Kumail Nanjiani. Television standouts like Game of Thrones'  Kit Harington and Atlanta's Brian Tyree Henry will also star. The movie's inclusion of an openly gay character will beat the previously announced bisexual character in Thor: Love and Thunder. (Tessa Thompson's character Valkyrie is canonically bisexual and Marvel has confirmed this will be the case.)

Beyond the Eternals movie, Feige revealed that Harington's character might be due for further action in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"He’s a really amazing actor, and this part came up in The Eternals film that we’re doing. We were so happy when he agreed to join, and it is a part that could perhaps grow into something else in the future," Feige hinted.
