Aziz Ansari is the latest disgraced man of the #MeToo movement attempting to make a rebound. The Master of None creator and comedian was spotted over the weekend doing standup four months after sexual misconduct allegations against him went public.
Ansari performed several unannounced sets at the Comedy Cellar in New York City from Wednesday to Sunday. As Daily Dot points out, audience members shared photos of Ansari on stage, and tweeted that his routine included jokes about millennials, race, and coffee.
An anonymous woman accused Ansari of sexual assault back in January after the Golden Globes, sharing the details of her experience with Babe.net. He allegedly continued to push the woman for sexual activity after she verbally and nonverbally declined multiple times. "I believe that I was taken advantage of by Aziz," the woman said at the time.
Ansari later released a statement saying the encounter was "by all indications" consensual, and that he supported the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements. His friend and co-writer Lena Waithe, among others, has stood beside him in the wake of the accusations.
The comedian is one of several men who have been planning their comebacks after being publicly accused of sexual misconduct.
