The classic character of Nancy Drew is getting a makeover courtesy of The CW. Originally portrayed as a 16-year-old prodigy detective who solves mysteries in a series of popular YA books, Drew will be coming to life on the small screen this fall. The latest version finds an older version of the protagonist (played by Kennedy McMann) swearing off detective work after the death of her mother. She instead decides to work as a waitress as a way to bide her time until she can reapply to college. However, when Drew and her friends get accused of murdering a socialite she’s forced to get back to gumshoeing to get them all off the hook.

Taking a cue from Riverdale, The CW’s wildly popular reboot of the Archie Comics series, Nancy Drew takes a character that originally debuted back in 1930 and modernizes it for a new audience. The 2019 version is darker and more mature, with the young adult version of Drew at the forefront, paving the way for another classic, wholesome American story made for TV.
