In the clip, we're given a better synopsis of the Josh and Benny Safdie-directed film. The trailer moves quickly through a number of scenes, where we see the New York City jeweler Howard Ratner (Sandler) selling his diamond-encrusted pieces, gambling on sports, and fighting with his wife. While the Weeknd's role in the movie was unclear before, we get a glimpse of him singing on a mic. This is Abel's feature film debut.
During the screening of Uncut Gems at the Toronto Film Festival, the Weeknd also premiered a new look. Sporting a fresh haircut, mustache, and a navy blue suit, you almost couldn't tell it was him. Many have attributed the transformation to his breakup with Bella Hadid, whom he split with last month.
Sandler has also had a busy summer. In June, news surfaced that his Murder Mystery reportedly broke a Netflix record. The flick garnered more than 30 million views in a three-day span, marking the biggest opening weekend for a Netflix original film. Murder Mystery is part of Sandler's eight-movie deal with Netflix. It follows titles like The Ridiculous 6, The Do-Over, The Week Of, and Sandy Wexler.
Uncut Gems also features Lakeith Stanfield, Kevin Garnett, Idina Menzel, and Julia Fox. The A24 film is slated for release on Dec. 13.
