The ending of Game of Thrones has proven divisive, to say the least. Fans have gone so far as to petition HBO to remake the final season, while actors involved have had to come out and defend what many saw as an ending that came out of nowhere. Despite this, Brienne of Tarth actress Gwendoline Christie seemingly knew who was going to take the Iron Throne years before it hit TV screens.

Thrones surprised a lot of fans when it said farewell, naming Bran Stark the king of the Seven Six Kingdoms. While this might seem like a left-field choice, especially with all the hints the show gave about who might come out on top, Christie said she thought it could be Bran two years before it actually happened.

In an interview with Extra's Mario Lopez in 2017, Christie said, "Don't you think it's going to be someone out of left-field, don't you feel that those seem like the obvious choice?" She continued, "What we know about the show is that it constantly surprises you, so I'm wondering if it might be Bran. Just because we keep seeing the world from his perspective, don't we. We keep seeing his visions."

Jaime Lannister actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau accompanied her for the interview, and he agreed that it would be someone unexpected although he had his doubts about Bran. "The Three-Eyed Raven as the king, huh? No, no it doesn't make sense." Responding to people realizing she called it years ago, she simply tweeted a shrug emoji.
