With next year's Rocketman, director Dexter Fletcher is giving Elton John fans "an epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story" of the prolific artist's most crucial career moments.

Taron Egerton (Kingsman, Robin Hood) takes the role of Sir Elton in the film, a teaser trailer for which debuted via Paramount early Monday morning. As is made quite clear in both the film's excerpted synopsis above and the new teaser, Rocketman is looking to avoid the cliches of the biopic formula by taking what appears to be a less linear approach a la Todd Haynes' Bob Dylan tale I'm Not There.

In fact, Egerton has pushed back against the idea of calling it a biopic at all. "We are making a movie called Rocketman about Elton John's formative years," he told Collider in May. "Everyone thinks it's a biopic. It isn't. It's a fantasy musical so it's actually his songs used to express important beats in his life at emotional moments. He's not the only character that sings. It's going to be fun."

Rocketman also stars Jamie Bell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Richard Madden, Alison Ball, Gemma Jones, and more. The film hits theaters May 31. It takes its title, of course, from the Elton John song of the same name, i.e. the one that recently got an excellent Young Thug rework.
