What's New on Netflix Australia in October 2018

Making a Murderer Part Two is just the beginning of what's on Netflix Australia in October 2018

Halloween is creeping up, and we’re hanging out to see all the inevitable Kanye x Lil Pump Roblox getups. Remember fam, if you can still fit through a door frame, you’re doing it wrong.

Here’s what’s on Netflix this October, for when you need a break from DIY (Do It Ye-Self).

Joe Rogan: Strange Times (comedy special)

Your dad’s favourite podcast host is back. Joe Rogan is a great interviewer, sure, but he is to comedy what MJ was to baseball. Nevertheless, in his second Netflix comedy special, weed smoking and vegan-hating Rogan riffs on smoking weed and hating vegans. If you’re wondering why every comedian is still rinsing these two topics in 2018 – don’t worry, we are too.

Joe Rogan: Strange Times airs October 2 on Netflix Australia.

Operation Finale (film)

During World War II, there was a second Adolf that was responsible for the senseless murders of millions of Jews. Known as the “master of death”, Adolf Eichmann oversaw deportations to concentration camps, and murders by gas chambers.

Fifteen years after WWII ended, Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad launched a daring mission to capture Eichmann and bring him to trial.

Operation Finale depicts the gripping game of cat and mouse between Agent Peter Malkin (Oscar Isaac) and Eichmann (Ben Kingsley).

The film is directed by Chris Weitz (A Better Life, About a Boy), and also stars Mélanie Laurent and Nick Kroll (seriously, Nick Kroll).

Operation Finale airs October 5 on Netflix Australia.

22 July (film)

22 July tells the aftermath of Norway’s deadliest terrorist attack in 2011, when a far-right extremist killed 77 people by first detonating a car bomb in Oslo, then conducting a mass shooting at a youth camp.

You may remember courtroom footage of a sneering, unrepentant Anders Breivik. (The same guy who in 2014 threatened to go on hunger strike if his prison didn’t upgrade his PS2 to a PS3.)

His reprehensible behaviour could only be offset by the strength and solidarity of survivors and bereaved. 22 July follows theirs, and an entire nation’s path to healing and reconciliation.

The film is written/directed/co-produced by English filmmaker Paul Greengrass (Captain Phillips, United 93), and features a Norwegian cast and crew.

22 July airs October 10 on Netflix Australia.

ReMastered (documentary series)

Musician myths recanted in schoolyards and beyond: Manson removed his rib cage to self-fellate, Keith Richards snorted his dad’s ashes, Avril Lavigne died in 2003 and was replaced with a doppelganger. Okay, no one really dwells on the last one, but it’s time for some of these rumours to be put to rest.

ReMastered is an 8-part insight into history’s most hallowed musicians. Each episode will focus on a different artist, and bring forth new discoveries previously unreported by the press. Delve into the seminal events in the lives of Bob Marley, Johnny Cash, Jam Master Jay, Sam Cooke and others.

ReMastered airs on October 12 on Netflix Australia.

Back in 2015, Netflix debuted Making a Murderer and opened the floodgates for a true crime renaissance. We learned of Steven Avery, a man so clearly framed for murder it’s laughable. Except we didn’t laugh, we pulled our hair out and screamed at the TV.

Season 2 continues the fight in clearing Avery as well as his nephew Brendan Dassey. His new attorney, Kathleen Zellner, has a proven record of successfully overturning wrongful convictions. She has stated:

“The deeper we dig into the Avery conviction, the more evidence we uncover of his innocence. It does not matter how long it takes, what it costs or what obstacles we have to overcome – our efforts to win Mr. Avery’s freedom will never stop.”

Making a Murderer Part Two airs October 19 on Netflix Australia.

Adam Sandler: 100% Fresh

Netflix has nabbed Adam Sandler’s first stand-up special in over 20 years, because of course they did. All of us can say that we love “old” Adam Sandler, whereas Netflix is like, “We’ll add Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison to our library, but you’re also going to have to sit through The Ridiculous 6”.

Granted, Sandler’s performance in last year’s Original The Meyerowitz Stories was fantastic. Maybe this special will be another return to true form. 100% (certified) fresh, as it were.

Adam Sandler: 100% Fresh airs October 23 on Netflix Australia.
