If the trailer for Orion Pictures’ forthcoming film The Prodigy tells us anything, it’s that Miles is the newest creepy kid in horror. During his eery hypnosis session with an older man (who happens to be rather creepy, himself), Miles is taken on a journey through his previous life experiences, all the way to before he was born. As we reach that point, we see a demonic arm break through a mysterious cabin door, seemingly reaching for a woman as she flees through the woods, in terror.

“I’m no longer speaking to Miles,” the hypnotist utters, enunciating every syllable. “I’m speaking to the person who has taken residence inside his body. You came uninvited. Tell me if you can hear my voice.”

What exactly is going on with Miles? The Prodigy holds the answer. Directed by Nicholas McCarthy, the horror-thriller actually centers around the young child’s mother who thinks her son’s disturbing behavior is the result of paranormal forces taking hold of him.

Horror aficionados may be familiar with McCarthy’s directorial skills from other supernatural flicks like The Pact, At the Devil’s Door, and Holidays. Joining McCarthy is Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train, Pet Sematary) who wrote the screenplay, and Tripp Vinson (Exorcism of Emily Rose), as a producer.

The Prodigy (formerly titled Descendant), starring Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black) and Jackson Robert (It, AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead), is scheduled for theatrical release on February 8, 2018. For a sneak peek, peep the trailer above and be sure to watch until the end to witness something truly disturbing.
