HBO Gives Glimpse at Final Season of 'Game of Thrones' in New Promo Video

Midway through a surprise marketing video for HBO's 2019 lineup, the network unveils previously unseen 'Game of Thrones' footage of a hug between Jon Snow and his sister Sansa Stark as a "Final Season" caption flashes on the screen.

If you’re a Game of Thrones fan starved for any scraps of new information about the forthcoming eighth and final season of the show, HBO just tossed you a bone midway through a freshly released surprise marketing video for the network's 2019 lineup.

At the 1:10 mark of the clip, HBO unveils previously unseen footage of a hug between Jon Snow and his sister Sansa Stark as a "Final Season" caption flashes on the screen. It’s a quick glimpse, but it should help satisfy the hunger of some fans before we all get a more in-depth look at the new season—scheduled to air sometime in the first half of 2019.

The 100-second promo clip also includes first looks at the upcoming third season of True Detective as well as previews of The Deuce, Jane Fonda, The Shop, Pod Save America, Camping, Room 104, My Brilliant Friend, Flight of the Conchords, My Dinner with Hervé, Barry, Veep, and Big Little Lies.

Details about the final season of Game of Thrones have been minimal, but Sansa Stark actress Sophie Turner did recently reveal that the final installment of the show will be more violent than ever. "This season is bloodier than ever," she said. "It’s full of betrayal, full of war, full of danger. That’s all I can say without giving too much away." The season will be directed by David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, David Nutter, and Miguel Sapochnik. It was written by David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, Bryan Cogman, and Dave Hill.

HBO has already greenlit a prequel spinoff of the series, which will take place thousands of years before Game of Thrones began. The network says the prequel will chronicle "the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour." Explaining that the series will explore areas that the original series never touched, HBO says, "From the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend... it's not the story we think we know."
