Euphoria, a drama pilot starring Zendaya, is now set to become an HBO series executive produced by Drake and his co-manager Future the Prince.
Another Happy Day writer/director Sam Levison, who also co-penned last year's Wizard of Lies starring Robert De Niro, will handle scripts for each episode of the high school–centered series. As with the Israeli show of the same name, Levinson's Euphoria will follow a group of students as they garner life experience via sex, drugs, social media, and more. Zendaya will be joined by Maude Apatow, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Sydney Sweeney, and more.
Marking his second IMDb producer credit, Euphoria further brings to fruition Drake's goal of delving into film and television. In November, he told the Hollywood Reporter he planned to eventually take time away from music to knock out a few movies. "I'm sure I'll stop [making music] one day," he said. "When it starts to feel like I'm making it up. Hopefully I'll catch it before I ever get there, right? But right now it feels like we just started, so I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. But I do plan on expanding—to take six months or a year to myself and do some great films." Music, he added, will "always" be there for him.
Last year, Zendaya made her motion picture debut in Spider-Man: Homecoming and co-starred with Zac Efron and Hugh Jackman in the Oscar-nominated Greatest Showman. "It was so much fun," she told one of the late-night Jimmys last July. "Like I said, this is something that I've been wanting to do for a really, really long time. I wanted to get into movies and this is finally it."
