Once upon a time, Jerry Seinfeldcurved the entire fuck out of Kesha. If you haven't heard this story before, my God, are you in for a treat. Back in June, Seinfeld and Kesha were attending an event, when Kesha came across Seinfeld giving a red carpet interview. Kesha, a huge Seinfeld fan, eagerly approached the comedian, hoping for a chance to show and receive love from one of her favorite comics.
“I’m Kesha! I love you so much. Can I give you a hug?” she chirped while going for it. But Seinfeld swerved, put up a hand and hit Kesha with a dramatic "no thanks." He did this a total of three times—three times—before Kesha finally gave up and scurried away. Seinfeld ended up admitting he didn't know who she was, and like most of us, he doesn't exactly go around hugging strangers. It was a phenomenal moment in contemporary pop culture history (I'm exaggerating, but only a little), and it made people across the world cringe with secondhand embarrassment.
Lucky for us, the story doesn't end there. On Tuesday afternoon, the comedian posted a photo to Twitter, and it can best be described as part-subtweet, part-troll. In the photo, Seinfeld is hugging his longtime manager, George Shapiro. No big deal on the surface; it's not like he's barred from hugging just because he doesn't like to hug strangers. But the scene behind Seinfeld and Shapiro is what takes this to another level. Lurking behind the two men is an incredible mural of the exact moment Seinfeld rejected Kesha. Seinfeld mentions in the tweet that he's in Melbourne, Australia, which makes this moment that much more special: it was the Curve heard 'round the world.
In Kesha's defense, she realizes in hindsight that she messed up. She spoke to Sirius XM Hits 1 about the awkward situation last month. "I should have known better,” she said. "I've seen the hugging episode [of Seinfeld]! That was my fault, that was my fault."
