Of all the impressions to emerge from Donald Trump's White House, Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer might have been the most unexpected. But as she showed in her latest appearance on the Saturday Night Live stage, it's also one of the best.
McCarthy absolutely nails it again. In the skit, Spicer is fielding questions from reporters about Trump’s alleged ties with Russia. He brings out his props, torments reporters with a fire extinguisher, and many more antics. When they bring up the idea of Spicer getting fired, he heads to New York City to try and find Trump. Though we all know where he really is.
McCarthy did not leave fans in suspense heading into this week's episode of SNL. To promote her latest appearance as the beleaguered White House Press Secretary, McCarthy spent Friday afternoon touring New York City in her Spicer getup, traveling with a podium down the streets of NYC.
Even setting aside her run as Spicer, Saturday was a landmark episode for McCarthy. The latest appearance on SNL marked her fifth time as the host of the program, which puts her in the "Five Timers Club" alongside beloved hosts such as Bill Murray, Justin Timberlake, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and a number of other big-name celebrities. NBC promoted the big occasion by sharing a brief montage of her previous appearances on the show on their Twitter page:
