Every kid fears that he or she will wind up an orphan. But for 17-year-old Joshua "J" Cody (Finn Cole), the problem isn’t that he has no other family to turn to when his mother dies from an overdose. The problem is with the family he does have.

In the riveting new series Animal Kingdom, we quickly realize that the rest of the Cody clan is about as far from Ozzie and Harriet as you can get. They’re hotheaded, dangerous, and bring a sinister new meaning to the phrase “family business.” Headed by one badass mother, “Smurf” (Ellen Barkin—Ocean’s 13), the group also includes Pope (Shawn Hatosy—Southland), Craig (Ben Robson—Vikings), and Deran (Jake Weary—It Follows), as well as close friend and co-conspirator Baz (Scott Speedman—The Strangers), who serves as Smurf’s second-in-command. Together, this crew lives every day to excess, and fuels their high-octane lifestyle through dangerous—and sometimes deadly—criminal activities.

Inspired by the critically acclaimed film of the same name, Animal Kingdom delivers a gritty, action-packed punch in its new American incarnation. The series premieres Tuesday, June 14, on TNT.
