A new xXx: The Return of Xander Cage casting has been unveiled and surprisingly it wasn't done by Xander himself, Vin Diesel. Diesel has been treating fans, particularly his Instagram followers to behind-the-scenes photos of the xXx sequel. Paramount Pictures recently announced The Return of Xander Cage would be premiere in January of next year, making it a banner year for Diesel releases. Joining Diesel for the sequel—for his film debut—is former NFL star Tony Gonzalez.

News of the former Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons star's casting was reported exclusively by Variety. It's unknown how he’ll fit into the "Xander Zone" since information about his role was not provided. But Gonzalez will feel just at home. Audiences will recall Cage was an extreme sports athlete before he was recruited by NSA Agent Augustus Gibbons, played by Samuel L. Jackson who will be reprising his role, in exchange for getting his criminal record wiped. Cage will be getting extreme once again as Diesel has posted videos of himself practicing on dirt bikes, skateboards, and more. Maybe Cage knew Gonzalez's character from his pre-spy days.

Gonzalez posted a still from the film on his Instagram saying:

For the xXx sequel, Entertainment Weekly reports Cage will come out of a self-imposed exile to retrieve a weapon known as "Pandora's Box." Gonzalez joins a cast featuring Nina Dobrev, Ruby Rose, Deepika Padukone, and Toni Colette, in addition to the previously mentioned Jackson.
