That rumored Tupac biopic might actually happen.

After years in developmental purgatory, Morgan Creek may finally see his biopic on iconic rapper Tupac Shakur come to fruition. A new report suggests that Benny Boom, who directed 50 Cent’s “Just a Lil’ Bit” music video, has signed on to helm the project.

With the success of Straight Outta Compton, currently the highest grossing music biopic of all time, the team behind the proposed Tupac biopic have found their window of opportunity. However, getting it made won’t be easy, Collider reports. It’s already seen its fair share of trouble after directors Carl Franklin, John Singleton, and Antoine Fuqua all came and went. It also survived two lawsuits: Morgan Creek sued Tupuc’s mother Afeni Shakur for the rights to his music and producers Emmett/Furla sued Morgan Creek for making casting decisions without their approval.

If Creek wants his biopic to see the light of day, he’ll have to move quickly. Music rights go back to Afeni if the movie is not in production by the end of the year.
