The tectonic plates beneath the Twitter empire have been shifting in new and exciting ways since Jack Dorseyreclaimed the throne as the company's CEO, though this latest move might baffle even the most dedicated of tweet enthusiasts. Twitter is abandoning favorites outright in favor of this totally new and exciting thing called hearts, a.k.a. likes.

"We are changing our star icon for favorites to a heart and we’ll be calling them likes," Akarshan Kumar, Twitter's product manager, said in a statement. "We want to make Twitter easier and more rewarding to use, and we know that at times the star could be confusing, especially to newcomers. You might like a lot of things, but not everything can be your favorite." The move, strikingly similar to the heart-centered approach of Twitter's own Periscope, hits iOS and Android devices Tuesday.

As this is Twitter, the most timely members of society were super quick to offer their resounding endorsement of this bold new move:

@twitter Can we talk about this for a second?
