A Double Amputee Has Received Amazing Robot Arms and It's Not Science Fiction

Well-armed.

American double amputee Les Baugh has been given two robotic arms by the Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University. Incredibly, the arms (which are removable and worn like a harness) are attached directly to nerves in his shoulders, allowing him to operate them with his mind.

Baugh lost his arms in an electrical accident over 40 years ago, so the arms represent an overwhelming change in his quality of life. Last week it was the jetpack, and ths week it's robotic arms. It looks like we're edging ever closer to the vision of 2015 promised by Back the the Future 2 all those years ago. Or The Terminator, if you're a pessimist.
