Considering how old the Super Mario Bros. franchise gets, maybe original, NES-era Mario themed Converse isn't the best form of homage.
Dont' get it twisted, the game's a classic and a marvel of design, but find me anyone under the age of 17 that would be able to spot old-school 8-bit Bowser on the tongue of a pair of Chucks. Which begs the question: Who are these shoes meant for? Adult humans with bills and rent to pay seems like the only logical conclusion considering the price tag.
Converse plans to launch both sets of these new Super Mario-themed sneakers for no less than ¥20,000 this August as Japan exclusives. Personally, I think these look like clown shoes dipped in forever virgin, but maybe they'll increase in value as collectibles.
