Georgia Teen Bound to Shopping Cart Drowns in Lake While Playing Game with Friends

A completely unnecessary death.

An 18-year-old who had just graduated from high school earlier in the day drowned in a Georgia lake on Saturday after being tied to a shopping cart and pushed into the water.

The Associated Press reports that Cartersville, Ga. native Chance Werner died while playing a game with friends at Lake Allatoona. His body was discovered on Sunday morning, still inside of the cart.

According to Georgia Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman Melissa Cummings, the game involved sitting in a cart that was tied to a pole. The cart would then be pushed to the edge of a dock, hurling the person seated inside into the lake. However, Cummings told the Associated Press that Werner was anchored down by the cart, which was tied to him instead of the pole.
