Tumblr Will be 'Live-Giffing' the 2012 Presidential Debates

This will be nothing short of amazing. Or a huge fail.

While YouTube will live-stream the 2012 presidential debates, Tumblr will cover the discourse in the only way that would make sense for the blogging platform: with GIFs.

No, we're not sure how this will work. All we know is what Tumblr has told us. And that is that it will employ a "crack team of GIF artists cranking out instant animations of the best debate moments, from zingers to gaffes to awkward silences."

That "crack team" will include popular GIF-makers like Mr. GIF, TopherchrisLacey Micallef, and Bobby Finger. And to add actual context and information for each GIF, Tumblr has teamed up with the Guardian, which will be live-blogging each debate.

Will this work? Who knows. It doesn't sound like a very enjoyable way to follow a debate, but in the event Obama or Romney do something GIF-worthy, you'll know exactly where to find the GIF: Tumblr's Gifwich blog.
