On Saturday (July 28), after NBC analyst Brandi Chastain criticized the U.S. women's soccer team for their poor defense, goalkeeper Hope Solo used her Twitter account to fire back. And Solo's not backing down from her controversial statements.

In a series of tweets (ed note: tweets have been lightly edited for spelling, punctuation and clarity), she wrote:

"It's too bad we can't have commentators who better represent the team and know more about the game ! Lay off commentating about defending and goalkeeping until you get more educated @brandichastain. The game has changed from a decade [ago]. It's important to our fans to enjoy the spirit of the Olympics. It's not possible when someone on air is saying that a player is the worst defender! I feel bad for our fans that have to push mute, especially because is fantastic. should be helping too grow the sport."

When asked about her comments, Solo stood her ground.

"It's not about what made me unhappy," Solo said. "It's not about one game. I have my beliefs that the best commentators and the best analysts should be analyzing come Olympics, come World Cups, and it's only my opinion. You can take it or leave it, to be honest, so it's my opinion, and I think analysts and commentators should bring energy and excitement and passion for the game, and a lot of knowledge, and I think it's important to help build the game, and I don't think Brandi has that."
