Underground Comix 101 Panel Discussion in Chicago Tuesday (4/12)

On this history and future of independent, envelope-pushing lines on paper.

None

Tuesday, The Hungry Brain in Chicago hosts three individuals from the world of underground comix for a brief history of the genre and a dialogue about the medium's future. Joe Tallarico, an artist and aficionado, will be joined by George Hansen, a player in the original underground scene of the '60s, and Edie Fake, a contemporary graphic novelist who just released his first work, Gaylord Phoenix, last year.

In addition to the discussion, there will be collector's items for sale, as well as screenings of rare cartoons from the '20s and '30s. At evening's end, George Hansen and his band, the Chi-town String Ticklers will perform. What is is about underground comix and old-timey music? Maybe there's a grad thesis here.
