Imagine a Jack Johnson/Vampire Weekend collaboration. That’s what this Cayucas song sounds like.
Director Cameron Dutra says of the video: “It was great to work with Cayucas, they are a super fun band and for this video we tried to evoke the feeling of the song without doing a traditional narrative video. We also wanted to subtly touch upon the real story on which the song was based. ‘High School Lover’ is about a girl who would write Zach love letters, yet he would never respond despite actually liking her back. I tried to abstract the idea of a high school girl’s notebook with doodles and sketches into stop motion graphics and titles. Over all we wanted to keep the vibe light hearted, fun, and creative just like the music.”
With this video also comes the announcement that Cayucas’ debut album, Bigfoot, comes out April 30 on Secretly Canadian.
