Who would have thought Sub Pop Records (Nirvana, Beach House, Fleet Foxes, The Shins, The Postal Service) would be behind two of the most interesting alternative hip-hop acts out right now? Shabazz Palaces shook things up with 2011’s Black Up, and now Sub Pop is gearing up for the release of Clipping.’s new album CLPPNG. The album comes out June 10, and while it features solid rapping and some West Coast flavor that you’d expect from a hip-hop trio out of Los Angeles (rapper Daveed Diggs, producers Jonathan Snipes and William Hutson), it’s the unexpected sounds that make this such an exciting project.
