A few years ago, it seemed like the next wave of indie pop would combine the rawness of garage and lo-fi with the big beats of hip-hop and pop. Acts like Youth Lagoon found new ways to master this style with a unique edge, but things have moved in other directions. Instead, maybe partly because of Lorde and Broods’ success, indie pop has favored a more polished sound.

Lyon & Lowe are coming with something different, though. Slightly spacey and a little glitchy, rich melodies are delivered with a slacker tone over fractured electronic backdrops. “Girlfriend” is more Animal Collective than Lorde, but there’s still an immediacy about it that makes it easy to fall in love with on first listen.

We still don’t know much about who these guys are. They are apparently two Love Our Records artists from different sides of the Atlantic, but that’s all we have. That, and the music. That’s enough.

If you like what you hear, like Lyon & Lowe on Facebook and keep up with their new drops on SoundCloud.
