The surviving members of Nirvana don’t often come together for performances, but Dave Grohl and Krist Noveselic are reuniting for the 12.12.12 Hurricane Sandy relief concert on Wednesday night, and according to The Guardian, they’ll be joined by a special guest standing in for Kurt Cobain. That special guest? Paul McCartney.
McCartney has reportedly been “secretly working” with Grohl and Noveselic after Grohl reached out for a jam session. The details are a little sketchy, but it sounds like they’ll be performing a new song at the concert. There is some speculation that they might even be playing Nirvana material, but that has not been confirmed.
The 12.12.12 concert will also feature Kanye West, The Rolling Stones, Eddie Vedder, Alicia Keys, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, and more. Details on the show here.
Update:
It is a new song that’s kind of Helter Skelter meets Scentless Apprentice. It rocks with a heavy groove. St. Paul is powerful. @pontifex
