Death Songs - "Water In The Eyes Of Man"

Death Songs’ “Water In The Eyes Of Man” has a folksy feel to it, but it’s also got the wavering vocals something like Conor Oberst and lyrics like: “And all I want, is to sit and talk, with all of you, before we die.” It’s the kind of line you probably don’t expect to hear over the acoustic guitars and harmonicas, but you have to remember you are listening to a band that chose the name “Death Songs.” The Portland band’s EP comes out October 4th.

Death Songs is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Nick Delffs (of The Shaky Hands). “I called it Death Songs because there’s always that possibility that the next song I write would be my last,” Nick Delffs says, and you can hear the smile on his face. It’s not that he’s morbid-quite the opposite. Delffs sees his bands moniker, which might at first induce visions of dancing skeletons drumming tombstone rhythms in a cemetery, as more of a celebration. “Native American death songs celebrate the person’s life,” Delffs elaborates, “and that’s what I want to do with these songs as well.”
