With their debut songs, many new artists try to capitalize on the trends of the moment, but 21-year-old Portland, OR artist Alexandra Savior’s first official release “Shades” achieves a classic charm. Reverb-drenched guitar work and a fuzzy bassline serve as a fitting backdrop for Savior’s mischievous, husky vocals.
The song was produced by Arctic Monkeys’ frontman Alex Turner along with James Ford, who has worked with Florence + The Machine, Haim, and Jessie Ware. It was premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show on Apple Music.
“’Shades’ was an accident,” Savior says. “It’s about knowing you’re doing something you’re not supposed to be and reveling in it.”
