Saturday Submissions 2

We still haven't figured out exactly how to deal with submissions. Pigeons & Planes was founded on the idea of providing a balance—of genres, of jokes and serious content, and most important, of indie and mainstream.

As the site continues to grow, we get more submissions than we can handle, but we think it's important to go through as many as we can. That's what we're here for, and that's sometimes how we find our favorite new artists. We see so many other sites relying on record labels and PR companies for their music, and we think that gives an unfair advantage to people with money and connections.

So we'll always be open to taking submissions (check out our new Reddit), and we decided to try out this Saturday Submissions feature to share some of the weird and wonderful emails we get in our submissions inbox. Here are five random submissions that we got recently.

1.

2. 17-year-old rapper influenced by Cam'ron and Spooky Black

He said: "I'm colder than an ocean... pause."

What's the "pause" even for in this case? Also, why is he making gun sound effects after bragging about chugging vodka?

This kid is talking about gats, traps, and flushing drugs, but he sounds like he's more involved with blogs, tumblr, and social media. In 2015, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you like Yung Lean and Spooky Black, give him a shot. If you hate that kind of stuff, do not press play. This will probably be Joe Price's favorite new artist.

3. This ultimate spammer

Perseverance is rewarded, I guess. Despite the annoyance of all the emails, this song is well produced and the rapping is sharp. With nearly 40k views on his videos, does Russ really need to be spamming our inbox like this?

4. Trying to be Lorde

Despite the fact that this kid spelled pigeons with a "d," we decided to give him a chance. He says he's trying to be Lorde, but he definitely doesn't sound like Lorde. The production quality leaves a lot to be desired, the lyrics are at times cringe-worthy, the singing is pretty bad, but there are flashes of hope in the songwriting.

5. Bitch rap

No dicks are safe.

6. This ridiculous overstatement

Nope.

Declined.

No thanks.

No. No. No.

No way.

Absolutely not.

No.

Nein.

Non.

Nee

NOOOOOOO.
