Marc Zito, the Australian producer/singer known as Fractures, impressed with his song “Twisted” that came out around a year ago and has garnered almost 300,000 plays. Since then he’s come out with a few other loose tracks and remixes, but the cream of the crop is his newest song “Won’t Win.”

On first listen, “Won’t Win” seems like a morbid tale with lyrics like, “I’m half asleep, you’re medicated, crumbling inside ourselves/My eyeballs leak, they’re lubricating, try to think of something else.” But it hides something below its surface—it’s a story of hope and of rising above this person who has wronged you (and in a pretty big way, apparently). The song rises and falls, building over the chorus with a hurried guitar riff and the constant reminder that “you won’t win” before bringing us back down again into a minimal beat, where Zito’s voice shines.

“Won’t Win” is taken from Fractures’ forthcoming debut EP, due out on July 4. He’s got a few shows coming up if you happen to live in Australia, and you can find out more information at his website.
