Tweens is a Cincinnati band of non-tweens that calls their music “trash pop.” Their newest song “Be Mean” is a fun, upbeat outcry from the band’s vocalist, Bridget Battle. She screams, “I want you to be mean to me!” to Mr. Nice Guy over retro, raucous guitar pop. It’s catchy and fun, but there’s a definite punk rock edge to Tweens, which is a nice departure from the soft, dreamy guitar pop so plentiful in indie rock right now. If you want to catch more from the group, their self-titled LP will be out via Frenchkiss Records on April 8. Listen to “Be Mean” below.
