Charli XCX has built her name with signature electro-pop songs about love and love’s failures. But her latest track takes a drastically different turn. While “Allergic To Love” maintains her love-themed subject matter, the aesthetic has hit left-field as the singer/songwriter goes punk in the minute-long track. She sounds unhinged, and there are even some shimmering moments reminiscent of The Ramones in Charli’s raucous screams. What the song lacks in duration, it makes up for in energy.
