When Confusion wrote about seeing Willis Earl Beal this summer, he noted that the most exciting part of Beal’s show is that Beal himself might not what his “plan” is for the night. And for those lucky enough to have seen Beal live, this is an extremely accurate sentiment. But for those yet to see the singer in concert, we’re able to see just exactly what Confusion meant thanks to footage like this above. The singer performed at Brooklyn’s The Knitting Factory this past week and was joined on stage by Cat Power. The two closed out the show with a rendition of Bob Dylan’s “Pledging My Time” before moving into Power’s own “Colors and the Kids,” which they both sang while sitting cross-legged on the ground. It’s moments like this that are clearly spontaneous but still soundly fit with Beal’s overall live-show aesthetic. Watch the clip above.
