The name Hayley Kiyoko might sound familiar to you. The 23-year-old has already made a name for herself in the acting world with roles in shows like The Vampire Diaries and the upcoming Jem and the Holograms movie, but now she’s shifting her attention to her music. “This Side of Paradise” is her new single, a lush electro-pop ballad that sounds saccharine but packs a darker underlying message about the ups and downs in love. This week, Kiyoko released the visuals for the song, which perfectly mirrors the tumultuous narrative. Says the singer:
The concept of me looking through the windows is representing barriers. The video goes from my own ‘side of paradise’ to the harsh reality I struggle with. Everytime I write a song, I imagine a music video at the same time and RJ Sanchez (the director) really brought my vision to life.
